"Summersaults"*
Life in Stories
My summersault summer season is transitioning now and it has been full of “head over heel” flips. Not of course the physical flips but definitely metaphorical ones.
Some weeks are all or nothing it seems, but that is okay. It is very welcoming as it gives me space to read and enjoy “down”moments.
I am fortunate to have had a teenager to hang around with for a few weeks which always seem to fly by…this year learning to drive was on the menu of activities along with some food deliveries to families in need and of course swimming and lots of outings for ice cream.
In July, my entire immediate family visited for a few days. Sitting at dinner with all of us together gave me a great feeling of gratitude that is difficult to put into words as a septuagenarian.
The experience of looking at a family that my husband and I helped to create and flourish over the last almost half a century is at times emotionally overwhelming in a good way. It comes with a sense of accomplishment. All of us there sharing a meal together in different seasons of life, wondering what comes next.
Just as the years flew by so did the few days we were all together.
Then off to opposite coasts and a return to everyday living while staying in touch via FaceTime and text messages.
These moments sustain me during the quiet moments and the long Chicago winters til we gather together again.
Landing a summersault and transitioning to Fall as the cycle continues…..
Summer
Fall
Winter
Spring
Beautiful expression of family love. I'm so glad you cherish the moments. Some people let them slip away unnoticed.
